Vanguard’s Alta Collection is designed to offer the maximum performance and versatility, while being simple to use. This has resulted in three TIPA awards, two Red Dot Design awards and multiple 5-star reviews from magazines and photographers alike.
Alta Pro 2+ tripods won the TIPA Best Tripod 2017 and TIPA Best Tripod 2018, alongside a Red Dot Design Award 2017.
These tripods introduce a new level of simplicity in use, without compromising on versatility. They retain the Multi-Angle Central Column (MACC) that moves almost 360° in any direction and can be deployed in seconds. The innovative new 45° twist locks feature a stop and a visual check to show the legs sections are deployed. They included four easy-set leg angles (20°, 40°, 60° & 80°) allowing you to get right down to ground level or up over 170cm. This combination of features allows you to transition from macro shots to landscape shots (with everything in between) in seconds.
This range comes as tripods only, or as tripod kits with a range of heads, from traditional ball-heads, pan-heads and video heads, through to innovative new pistol-grip heads such as the Alta GH-300T with shutter trigger and the Alta GH-100 without the shutter trigger. Almost all models (except selected video heads) are Arca Swiss compatible, allowing you to use specialist quick release plates from almost any brand.
Alta Pro 2 tripods feature the same design as the award winning Alta Pro 2+, but do not include the Multi-Angle Central Column (MACC) which not all find necessary. For example, birdwatching or video where the MACC is unnecessary. For birdwatching we recommend the Alta Pro 2 263AO, but there are models for video too.
The original Alta Pro were revolutionary at launch and feature the same base versatility including the Multi-Angle Central Column (MACC) that moves almost 360° in any direction. Key differences are that they are not quite so intuitive to use, they are flip locks (which can be a positive to many photographers) and they are not Arca Swiss compatible. Depending on the model, there are some other differences (for example the ball-head on the Alta Pro 263AB 100 does not have friction control), however for a more budget focussed photographer, they offer a great option
Alta Fly offers a choice of traditional roller cases, but also roller cases that can convert into a backpack when you need to cover more rugged terrain, resulting in a TIPA Best Camera Bag Award 2018. The largest, Alta Fly 62T, is designed to carry your entire studio with up to two tripods, down to hand luggage compatible models in the Alta Fly 55T and Alta Fly 49T (though we always recommend you check with your preferred airline as rules can vary and change without notice).
Alta Rise is a range of shoulder bags and backpacks for the more casual occasion, with a system that allows the bags to expand by 6cm with one simple zipper motion for those times that you need that little bit more space.
Alta Access is a range of shoulder bags that are designed for large PRO level kits that need to be used on the go, for example by photojournalists or wedding photographers. They feature wide access to allow access to your kit with ease, along with a comfortable shoulder strap system that can be converted to a backpack mode for longer journeys.
To maximise the versatility, the Alta Collection features a range of accessories to get the most out of your photography. This includes Alta Spiked Feet or the Alta Stone Bag that can be added to the Alta Pro 2 or Alta Pro 2+ tripods for additional stability outdoors.
