Allan and Joe have always been avid birders and feeling there was an opportunity they decided open a shop offering feed and feeders for wild birds. They found exactly the right premises in Salehurst, a beautiful little village in East Sussex, in the form of an old wagon lodge on a farm. Allan and Joe took great pride in converting the interior into a bright, airy and welcoming shop while maintaining the traditional period exterior.
Since opening Feathers Wild Bird Care in May 2010, the success of their warm and knowledgeable customer service has meant that they've extended the business to include a bespoke optics room.
Customers are able to test out quality gear, such as Vanguard Endeavor spotting scopes and ED IV binoculars, with a unique viewing area just outside the door.
Plus in 2012 they made a small nature area available for customer use, just 50 metres from the shop with a very comfortable hide allowing close views of beautiful birds feeding just feet in front of you.
The age difference between Allan and Joe (60s & 20s) when they opened Feathers helped make the venture a great success - with Allan's (old world) customer care and the forward thinking ideas of Joe combined to form a kind of retail shop with a truly warm and friendly ambiance that has sadly disappeared over the past few years.
Joe and Allan have built up the optics category in store and online over the past 12 months to a very good standard and range. They have recently starting ranging spotting scopes and tripods also.
If you are looking for five-star service, beautiful surroundings and professional advice, why not visit Feathers Wild Bird Care.
